Earthquakes in Panama only caused material damages

The series of tremors that shook Panama on Monday only caused material damages. So far there are no reported victims.

According to local media Telemetro Panama, earthquakes only scared the people of Panama City and the province of Chiriquí.

The strongest seismic movement was a 5-degree earthquake on the Richter scale at 1:35 p.m. that damaged structures and merchandise shops.

According to Arquin Tapia, head of the seismic network of the Geoscience Institute of the University of Panama, the tremor was due to a local fault near the Las Perlas Archipelago, and it was perceived in Panama City, East Panama, Darien, and the provinces of Veraguas, Coclé, Herrera and Los Santos.
