Environmentalists demonstrated against climate change all over the world

September 9, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Saturday, activists and environmentalists took the streets all over the world to demand the governments to put an end to the use of fossil fuels and act against climate change.

There were demonstrations from Melbourne to Bangkok, where there are meetings to celebrate the COP24. The movement, called Rise for climate, is present in hundreds of countries, but in Asia it was not very important on Saturday morning.

For now, the biggest demonstrations were seen in Manila, in the Philippines, with nearly a thousand participants. One of them had a dinosaur costume with a sign that read “go fossil-free”. The archipelago  relies heavily on coal plants.

This planetary action is scheduled to end with a big demonstration in San Fracisco, where the World Summit on Climate Action will be held from September 12th, organized by the governor of California in response to Trump’s anti-ecologist policies.

In Bangkok, the demonstrators gathered in front of the UN regional headquarters, where there are meetings to organize next Climate Summit, COP24, to be held in Poland three months from now.

Some of the participants criticized Trump’s decision to withdraw America’s contribution, as they believe America is part of the problem of climate change and therefore it has to be part of the solution.

The demonstrators are against the tardiness of the governments to carry out negotiations to set in motion the 2015 agreement, and the lack of attention to issues such as high levels of pollution, coastal erosion, and low fish reserves due to climate change.
