Electronic payment in public transportation is about to be a reality

February 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On February 2nd, a cooperation agreement was signed by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Public Transport Council, the Costa Rican Railways Institute, the Regulatory Authority of Public Services and the Central Bank of Costa Rica in order to develop the electronic payment system project for public transportation.

By doing this, it was established the framework of governance and the conditions under which the payment infrastructure will be built to allow the modernization of the collection of tariffs in the public mass transport service.

It will be based on a unique system (multimodal system) that will work with the use of debit, credit and prepaid bank cards.

This project aims to be inclusive and benefits everyone.
