Entrepreneurs propose single agency to collect taxes

March 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP) proposed to implement a mono-tribute system, through a single collection agency that would collect taxes such as income tax, contribution to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and pension schemes.

This agency would be in charge of distributing the corresponding contribution to each institution.

The entrepreneurs made the proposal as part of a set of reforms to encourage workers who are in the informal sector.

They also urged the implementation of a pilot reduction and modernization of procedures to determine which ones are effective and eliminate those that are not necessary, without requiring long and expensive legal provisions in each regulation.

Franco Arturo Pacheco, president of the UCCAEP, said that the fight against labor informality is a priority.

The informal sector of the country represents almost 40% of the economically active population and this undoubtedly is a subject of transcendence, and as such, it must be solved. Informality affects not only public finances, but also contributes to the imbalance of social security,”

said Pacheco.
