Environmental lawsuit to halt Trump’s wall

April 17, 2017 by Staff News Writer

According to legislator Raúl Grijalva’s team, an environmentalist and a US legislator have filed an initial lawsuit against the construction of a wall on the Mexican border before an Arizona State Court.

The lawsuit demands that plans for the construction of the wall proposed by President Donald Trump be suspended for lack of environmental impact studies.

According to Grijalva, the laws

exist to protect the well-being of people and wildlife. Trump’s Wall and its fanatical approach to the southern border will perpetuate human suffering and irreparably damage our public lands and wildlife.”

Grijalva and the Center for Biological Diversity call for the suspension of the plans, neighborhood routes, deployment of motorized patrols, installation of lighting devices and checkpoints for people.

This suspension must be maintained until the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) develops an environmental impact report of such works on wildlife in the border area.

The lawsuit is now in the hands of federal Judge Cindy Jorgenson.

Grijalva, the son of a Mexican immigrant, is a member of the House of Representatives for the Democratic Party, and opposes head-on the border project.

The gigantic wall could cost $ 21 billion.
