Escazú is improving its workforce

February 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

About 500 people are part of more than 8 educational programs provided by the Municipal Training Center for Employment located in Escazú.

The classes are taught by the National Technical University (UTN), thanks to an agreement between both institutions. The main objective is to train the population in different technical skills, which are necessary to enter and remain successfully in the labor market.

Luis Aguilera, an adviser to the Vice – Rectory of Extension and Social Action of UTN, explained that the project has been operating for more than five years in the municipality. The idea is to provide the community with a space where they can be trained to be part of the workforce, by improving their skills or develop entrepreneurship projects.

This opportunity is available -and free-to all residents of the canton. The only have to approach the municipality and ask about the academic offer.

There are free courses, modular programs (6-8 months) and technical courses (8 months or 1 year). The classes include cuisine (traditional, artisanal, bakery, baking), computer science, English and Portuguese programs, banking, customer service and accounting.

This week, the institution delivered the first diplomas to last year’s students, and welcomed those who started the 2017 courses.
