Executive to prioritize fiscal issues in extraordinary sessions

July 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The projects that the Executive Branch will send to the Legislative Assembly for the extraordinary session that will begin on August 1st (and conclude at the end of the month) are practically ready.

According to the Deputy Minister of the Presidency in legislative matters, Luis Paulino Mora, there are three axes on which to base the projects: security, infrastructure and fiscal issues, the latter as a priority.

The priority is the fiscal wing in its entirety, especially with regard to the fiscal rule, a rule that would prevent the abuse of public indebtedness, placing restrictions on public policies that could be developed depending on the debt the state has,”

said the official.

In addition, they will send the public employment projects to regulate the privileges for the officials. There will be four projects that have already been discussed and seem to have a consensus: luxury salaries, prohibition and exclusive dedication issues, as well as the issue of single salary of the high ranking, which was presented by the Libertarian Movement.

As for the issues of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income, although the government is clear thet are not feasible because they do not have the support of the majority of legislators, they will be sent anyway to make progress in some discussions

The agenda is small, according to the Presidency, because there will be only 12 Plenary sessions in August, a month in which two days are lost because of public holiday, and there is talk of a possible recess in the Assembly on August 14th.
