The New Republic Party must register within a period of three months, if it wants to participate in the municipal elections to be held in February 2020.
According to Héctor Fernández, general director of the Electoral Registry of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), all the groups have two years to complete the registration process. However, when you want to participate in an election, you must do all the paperwork within the previous year.
If Fabricio Alvarado’s followers intend to fight for local governments, they must present all documents by January 31st, 2019.
Fernández explained that Nueva República presented the constitutive act, a deed that must be endorsed by a notary.
As part of the process, it will first require the adhesion of three thousand people, to then hold 82 cantonal, seven provincial, and one national assemblies.
Delegates of the TSE must be present at each event, so they are obliged to present the application five days before the date of the event. When asked about the quorum required for the the assemblies, Fernández explained there is not established a minimum, although in each cantonal event, they must elect five representatives to the national assembly.
Since New Republic is not registered, it only has the unique benefit to set aside the name and currency. The constitutive act was presented to the Court on October 24th at 3:55 pm, just one day after Alvarado’s announcement on the creation of the new political group that led seven legislators from the National Restoration Party (PRN) to leave that group and join the new one.
