Family filed millionaire lawsuit against the State

January 11, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The family of José Gerardo Argüello, who fell to the Virilla River on June 21st, 2017, filed a million dollar lawsuit against the State. According to Jessica Argüello, sister of the victim, the legal civil action was filed because the bridge where the accident occurred did not have guardrails.

It has been said on many occasions, that if the railing had existed, perhaps his injuries would be lesser. In addition, they opened the bridge but it was not finished. Even today it is not finished, because after the accident what they did was put the piece of protection where he fell, but on the opposite side – from Alajuela to San José – they have done nothing, and we hope that what happened to my brother doesn’t happen to another person(…),”

said Argüello.

Although the woman did not want to refer to the figure of the demand, unofficially tit would be about 750 thousand dollars.

The young man’s sister indicated that he is bedridden and that the demand was filed to be able to pay for his treatments,

we are people of limited resources, and now he can’t move. In fact, he needs an orthopedic high neck wheelchair and we could not buy it, since it costs between 250 and 300 thousand colones. One person provided us with a normal wheelchair, but because of the situation in my brother’s neck, it is not the most appropriate,”

explained the woman.

At the moment, José Argüello lives with his wife and daughter in Heredia, but he remains like a small child. Before the accident, he and his wife had thought about setting up a laundry service. For this reason, they bought a washing machine and now the family uses it to put together some money.
