Famous criminal was the target of attack that killed four people in Limón

March 15, 2017 by Staff News Writer

José Manuel Kelly Rojas, known as “Chitá”, was the target of at least ten men who shot a vehicle in which seven people were traveling. Two adults and two children died at the site, but none of them was Kelly Rojas.

One of the hypotheses of the authorities is that the ambush that took place last night in Limón was aimed at ending Kelly Rojas. The dark area, surrounded by weeds, served as a hiding place for the attackers, who did not realize that the driver was not their target.

However, the vehicle did carry Kelly’s sentimental partner, a 26-year-old woman named Lawson Wright, a man named Aragón Fernández and his two children (ages 4 and 5), and another woman named Rojas Barrantes and her two children (ages 3 and 8), all of whom were related to Kelly.

“Chitá” is considered a dangerous man and he is currently in San José as he faces a trial for attempted murder and deprivation of liberty. Kelly Rojas has been linked to a criminal organization, drug trafficking, hired killers, and other crimes.
