FDA warns about use of anesthesia in these people

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States, issued a warning about the use of anesthesia for pregnant women and children under 3 years old.

According to the agency, and being sedated for long or being sedated several times could pose a health risk for them.

The warning explains that the use of repeated or prolonged (longer than 3 hours) general anesthesia and sedatives may harm the developing brains of fetuses and children under 3 years old.

We recognize that in many cases these exposures may be necessary from a medical point of view, and these new data for any damages to be assessed carefully against the risk of not making a specific medical procedure,”

said Janet Woodcock, from the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the FDA.

Because of this, it was announced that this should be added to the labels of sedatives.
