Figueres will meet more member states

August 4, 2016 by Staff News Writer

When asked about Chistiana Figueres’ candidacy to the United Nations Secretariat, minister of Foreign Affairs Manuel González answered:

Nothing is decided until everything is decided.

He declared that results are preliminary and she will keep meeting other member states, whether they are permanent members of the UN Security Council or not.

On July 25th, 2016, as confirmed by the Chancellor, they met US representatives in Washington.

Figueres has made public her political aspirations and she has also accompanied minister González before the Chinese government’s senior representatives. She has visited Spain and France and organized many forums to announce her goals.

Costa Rican candidate is supported by former presidents Luis Alberto Monge Álvarez, Óscar Arias Sánchez, Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier, José María Figueres, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, Abel Pacheco and Laura Chinchilla Miranda. They showed their support in a missive published recently.

The Security Council will hold the second, secret voting process next Friday at its headquarters in New York.
