Firefighters controlled huge fire in San José on Monday night

A huge fire affected several stores on Monday night. The incident occurred in Calle 8 and Avenida 6, from the Alajuelita 200 south.

The incident started at 8:33 p.m. and was controlled at 9:18 p.m. At first, the firefighters rescued a 70-year-old senior citizen. No injuries were reported.
According to the communications office of the Fire Department, 12 units were mobilized to deal with the fire:

-7 Extinguishing Units
-1 Advanced Support Ambulance
-1 Unit of Hazardous Materials
-1 Unit for recharging air cylinders
-1 Unit platform
-1 Fire Rescue Unit

The stations that responded were: Pavas, Central, Barrio México, Barrio Luján, Tibás and Guadalupe. Approximately 80 firefighters worked in the area.

So far this year, firefighters have dealt with 248 structural fires, approximately four every day.
