First results of second round favored Carlos Alvarado

April 1, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Before announcing the first results that gave the victory and the Presidency of the Republic to Carlos Alvarado, from the Citizen Action Party, the magistrate Luis Antonio Sobrado gave a conciliatory message.

The President of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal asked restraint from the winner and dignity from the loser, to think about the future and the well-being of Costa Rica. He also insisted that Carlos Alvarado should not be drunk on triumph and should create bridges for dialogue.

Those favored by the polls must have the humility and wisdom to anticipate that this will be impossible without the participation of other party,”

said Sobrado.

Those who suffer the defeat must -with generosity and dignity- put Costa Rica above their sorrow,”

added the magistrate.

After his speech, the magistrate announced the first results with 90.62% of the polls counted and giving the victory to the PAC with 60.66% of the votes, while Fabricio Alvarado received 39.34% of the country’s support.
