March 28, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Junquillal Bay Wildlife Refuge, in Guanacaste, faced a forest fire on Wednesday night, as can be seen in the video shared on the Facebook site of the Guanacaste Conservation Area.

The authorities of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) must deal with this emergency, since it occurs in a protected area, according to the Fire Department.

The RVS Bahía Junquillal burns. We have not rested despite the difficulties and obstacles. The wind plays a trick on us but we will not give up!”

posted the Forest Firefighters on their Facebook site.

According to the Emergency Office of Firemen, during 2019, 29 forest fires have been dealt with.

Guanacaste is the province with the highest number of fires of this type, with 15 incidents; Puntarenas with eight; San José with four, and finally Cartago, with two fires.
