January 16, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Public Ethics Office of the Attorney General filed a complaint against the former mayor of Alajuelita with the Public Prosecutor for the alleged crime of malfeasance.

Breach of legal duty is a crime in which a public servant makes arbitrary decisions in administrative or judicial matters knowing that said resolution is unfair and contrary to the law.

Víctor Hugo Cavarría Urena, who was mayor of the canton in the 2012-2016 period, was being investigated for the alleged granting of some 116 municipal visas for registered maps.

The press release sent by the Attorney General’s Office explains that the former official would have been in charge of these procedures at the request of a construction company “without having the technical reports of the Department of Urban Development or Urban Planning of the Municipality, contravening the Urban Planning Law.

As a result of the investigation carried out by the Ethics Office, the respective criminal complaint for the possible crime of breach of legal duty was presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
