Four men will go to trial for illegally exploiting minerals

March 23, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Four men will go to trial on April 3rd and April 4th at the Criminal Court of Corredores, after the prosecution in the area accused them of illegally exploiting minerals, which is penalized by the Mining Code.

The accused, surnamed Carrillo Torres, Zúñiga Carrillo, Escalante Céspedes and Cruz Estrada, were surprised by officials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy on March 20th in La Rubio stream channel, inside Corcovado National Park, where they were apparently extracting natural minerals without having a permit or concession to do so.

According to authorities, authorities seized items they used for exploitation.

At a hearing held on March 21st, they were summoned to the trial that will be held against them.
