Government highlights efforts in Limón to avoid floods

September 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Government aims to control and reduce the impact of rainfall in communities in Limón. Authorities have invested $22 million with the Flood Control System project in the Limoncito Area, to intervene in communities of Barrio Quinto, Juan Gobán, Limoncito, Ceibón, Santa Fe and Los Lirios.

On its traditional Sunday television network, the government explained that it works to clean and extend 12 kilometers of riverbeds, build a new canal and fix four existing ones.

But the landfill of the Board of Port and Economic Development Administration of the Atlantic Slope (JAPDEVA) was also built to distribute the waters properly.

Over the years, rains in the Caribbean have caused a lot of damage. Hence, solutions have been sought, which are gradually being consolidated.

The project included the construction of a 1,350-meter canal that will intercept and channel the waters before they reach a community.

The National Groundwater Irrigation and Drainage Service (SENARA) has been in charge of the project and expects that by the end of this year the bridges will be ready, while for the first quarter of 2018, it will conclude the canals.
