Green light for collective lawsuit against vehicle ownership tax

January 4, 2017 by Staff News Writer

All vehicle owners who want the State to reimburse extra charges of the vehicle ownership tax in the last three years can join the collective lawsuit filed with the Association of Free Consumers (ACL).

In recent days, the Contentious Administrative Court of the Treasury has dealt with the lawsuit filed by this organization, which aims for the Vehicle Property Tax to be declared as unfair and illegal and for the State to assume the corresponding payment for damages and Prejudice.

This tax is abusive in fixing the value of vehicles and their adjustments. The taxes on vehicle imports exceed 54%, affecting their value, so the Vehicle Property Tax is calculated on other taxes,”

explained Juan Ricardo Fernández, President of ACL.

In order to receive the benefits of a favorable judgment, the natural or juridical persons must join this collective process through the site www.bastayacr.com

Affiliation for participation and representation in this collective process has a unique cost of ¢10 thousand, plus an affiliation annuity of ¢3 thousand.

ACL believes this cost is appropriate, since the minimum fee for consulting with a legal professional is ¢110 thousand per person. This amount does not cover the costs of expert fees, witness costs and costs of digital copies and backups, among others.
