November 14, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A Guatemalan man was arrested on Sunday while trying to leave Costa Rica with 22 kilos of cocaine in a van through PeƱas Blancas.

Officials of the Drug Control Police (PCD) of the Ministry of Public Security intercepted the van and found the drugs hidden under the floor, in a metal structure attached to the chassis.

The vehicle has a Guatemalan plaque, C-0782-BQN, driven by Tiritite Escobar, 41, who was referred to the Criminal Court of Liberia, Guanacaste, to face a criminal case for international drug trafficking.

The PCD reported that the van entered Costa Rica on November 4th. In total, anti-drug agents seized 22 kilos of cocaine.

Tiritite remains in custody awaiting precautionary measures and is subject to a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
