Health unions call for a general strike in the CCSS

July 18, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The negotiation table between the unions of the health sector, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the Ministry of Labor (MTSS) failed, and that is why the union members called for a general strike.

This was reported by the National Union of Employees of the Fund and Social Security (Undeca), but the decision was supported by other groups, including Sinae and the National Medical Union. The details of this new protest will be announced in the coming days.

The union opposition is against the Executive Decree 41729-MIDEPLAN-H, deemed a “tailor-made suit against the workers of the CCSS and their rights.”

The guideline “Reform Regulation of Title III of the Law Strengthening Public Finance, Law No. 9635 on Public Employment,” has to do with changes in the matter of annuities, stop of layoffs and conversion of incentives to fixed nominal amounts.

These same unions called for a strike on July 4th and the greatest impact was reflected in appointments with specialists and scheduled surgeries.
