Health unions will go on strike “as a first warning”

July 4, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The health unions made a strike call for July 4th, in downtown San José. UNDECA, BUSSCO and Sinae-Afines unions will demonstrate against the economic measures promoted by the government and the legislators in the matter of taxes. In addition, they ask for the dismissal of the Minister of Finance, Rocío Aguilar.

The movement has been called “National Crusade” and will leave La Merced Park from 9:00 am to the Ministry of Finance.

Marta Elena Rodríguez, Undeca spokesperson, explained that the protesters from areas far from the capital will meet in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance. They think Aguilar is responsible for the economic decline of the working class; however, President Carlos Alvarado showed his support for Aguilar and won’t fire her.

Lennín Hernández, representative of Sinae-Afines, explained that they will guarantee to the insured the attention of emergencies, delivery of medicines and urgent laboratory exams. But some of the services that will be affected are those of External Consultation, that is, scheduled appointments.

Before the call to strike, the Executive President of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), Román Macaya made a respectful call to workers to keep providing the services offered by the institution in all corners of the national territory, so that the population does not have to suffer more.
