Healthy Dating, Teenage Pregnancy and Bullying Gathered Youth

May 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

How to encourage dating and prevent teen pregnancy? These were two of the themes tackled last week at an empowerment seminar for young parents.

The organized activity covered topics that currently concern young people and their families, such as bullying, positive discipline, healthy dating and pregnancy.

Mariela Ramírez, a gender and violence prevention specialist at the Paniamor organization, explained that parents should be alert to certain warning signs that could indicate that their child’s relationship is harmful.

Ramírez emphasized that it is important to understand that when one talks about healthy dating, one speaks of that relationship in which a construction of experiences is generated in an equal space, where both parties feel good, grow and have the same opportunities and rights.

It is important to pay attention to the teen’s behavior. For example, when they stops doing things they used to like: they no longer dresses like they did, they stop skating (for example), they get isolated and they don’t go out with friends anymore,”

said Ramírez.

The specialist added that it’s worth noticing if our child’s partner has control through jealousy and invasion of privacy with passwords to social media, for example.

In additions, parents were presented with a technological tool for their children. Through an online test, teens can work out if there are aggressive behaviors with their partner. This resource was built in conjunction with teenagers. who can access the page mequierenomequiere.org to take the test.
