Heavy rains cause floods in several cantons

August 20, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The rains of the last hours caused floods in several cantons of the country.

Sigifredo Pérez, chief of operations of the National Emergency Commission (CNE), reported that on Sunday there were heavy rains with a thunderstorm and a total of 18 events were recorded, as well as material damage in houses.

On Monday 14 events are reported in cantons such as Alajuela, Heredia, San Ramón, San Carlos, Guatuso and Upala, so the Municipal Emergency Committees were activated.

Pérez said that two Heredian families and six in Guatuso were transferred to family homes, due to flooding. The Mixed Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS) will carry out an evaluation to support those affected.
