Honduras recaptures drug leader that fled Costa Rica after paying bail

November 9, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Nicaraguan drug leader Raduán Zamora Valerio, who fled Costa Rica after paying a three-million bail, was recaptured in Honduras.

Zamora used a fake Honduran identity, calling himself José Luis Oliva Meza, according to the newspaper La Prensa.

The events occurred in 2012 when Zamora and six other subjects had almost a ton of drugs off the coast of Uvita Island. In addition, the criminals carried 60 million colones in cash.

After the payment of the bail ordered by the judge from Limón, Rosa Gamboa Haeberle, the subject was released without any indication of his whereabouts until November 2017.

At the beginning of 2016, the Public Prosecutor’s Office accused the judge of apparently receiving a payment to order the release of Zamora Valerio. Despite being convicted, a court of appeal annulled the sentence against the woman and asked for a new trial.

According to La Prensa, Zamora was known as ‘The Lord of the Skies’ and was devoted to developing the transfer of drugs in the Caribbean of Honduras.

The search was hampered by the false identities he used to commit the crimes. However, he was arrested on November 2nd in the so-called ‘Operation Eclipse’.

Zamora had a red alert by the Interpol at the request of the Costa Rican government.

The subject, aged 36, is required for multiple crimes: infraction of the law of psychotropics, drugs for unauthorized use, money laundering and related activities, qualified homicide, aggravated resistance and possession of a weapon.
