Illegal immigration in Nicaraguan border

June 29, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A Nicaraguan citizen named Arce Martínez presumably used his house, bordering Nicaraguan territory, to illegally help immigrants cross the border in exchange for great quantities of money. Martínez has a residency ID card and he was captured by Migration Police.

The property is near Peñas Blancas and beyond you can find the border with Nicaragua. It seems that he took advantage of this to help people cross the border, either from here to Nicaragua or from Nicaragua to Costa Rica,

explained the police.

There was a foreign individual in the house, but details about him will be released once the police and the Public Ministry have finished the investigation.

In Paso Canoa, la Julieta quarter, a Costa Rican man, named Santos Barrios was arrested. He is known as ‘Macho’. A gun was confiscated. Since he was in that area, the investigation indicates that both people are dangerous,

the report stated.

The operations were made simultaneously in other countries in Central America. It seems that these networks charge 15,000,000 colones to immigrants whose only goal is to reach The United States.

Migration Police confirmed that the investigations started after November and March Cuban migratory crisis.
