IMAS benefited 5,200 senior citizens with ¢ 10,156,000

The Joint Institute for Social Aid (IMAS) benefited more than 5,200 senior citizens during the first half of 2016. According to data provided by the entity, in this period ¢ 10,156 million were invested.

This entity has supported that sector of the population with attention to families, training and education, as well as housing projects distributed throughout the country.

Emilio Arias, Minister of Human Development, said that the region that has received the highest amount of aid is Huetar Norte, since that is where the largest number of elderly people in extreme poverty conditions are concentrated.

As part of support to people over 65 years old, Arias explained that the beneficiaries receive workshops ranging from empowerment to training to develop a venture.

The program that featured more investment was to care for families in which 5,000 people were supported and ¢ 1,074,789,831 were spent.

1,953 of the senior citizens treated at IMAS this year were men and 3,259 were women.
