Influenza killed two children

June 11, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The seasonal influenza virus killed two children at the National Children’s Hospital (HNN).

The director of that medical center, Olga Arguedas, confirmed the deaths, and although they can not reveal more details, she indicated that one of the minors died this month.

In addition, the medical center maintains 100% occupancy in the Critical Care Areas with children affected by respiratory viruses such as syncytial, parainfluenza 1-3, and influenza A and B; in fact, several minors are isolated and require mechanical ventilation.

Given this situation and with the aim of avoiding more deaths, the hospital director reiterated the call to vaccinate children between six months and six years old.

The vaccination campaign against influenza started this Monday, which has 1.3 million vaccines for children, senior citizens, pregnant women and populations at risk, such as asthmatics, morbidly obese and diabetics.

Doses are available in all health centers in the country.
