Interpol cancels arrest warrant for Eden Pastora

January 6, 2014 by Staff News Writer

Eden Pastora Gomez, whom the government of Daniel Ortega ordered to clean the river San Juan, used this dragline to open channels in the Calero Island, which is in dispute at the International Court of Justice. | FILE

International Police Organization (Interpol) has canceled the arrest warrant for Eden Pastora after only 18 days. Pastora is wanted by a Criminal Court in Limón on charges of usurpation of public property, violations of forestry law and causing environmental damages. Interpol withdrew the warrant after receiving information from judicial authorities in Nicaragua. Arguments include that Pastora’s actions were sanctioned by the government of that country, and that the location of the dredging work is disputed territory.
