Irazú‘s vegetation welcomed a new day covered in ice

January 9, 2019 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday, Irazú Volcano welcomed the morning hours covered in ice.

The images are surprising and were taken by the young Yirlania Granados, who works in a local store and said that the temperature dropped a lot and was very cold.

Rebeca Morera, meteorologist at the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), reported that in that area a minimum temperature was 4.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The frost and the ice in the vegetation occurs due to low temperature conditions, together with intense gusts of wind that cause a thermal sensation of 0 °C.

In Alajuela a temperature of 16.1 degrees was reported on Wednesday, while in Chirripó it reached 3.0 degrees Celsius.

If you have endured the cold these days, it is better if you keep the coat, because this condition is expected to continue in the coming days due to the low cloudiness.
