Italian woman was a victim of crime in Puerto Viejo de Limón

March 23, 2017 by Staff News Writer

An Italian woman became the new victim of the underworld in Puerto Viejo de Limón after suffering a robbery in that area on Tuesday night.

Fortunately, the woman was not injured but only stripped of her belongings, which were later found by Public Force officers.

The woman named Sottomaior recovered her purse, cell phone and other belongings, according to the police report, which does not explain how the robbery happened.

The police have an operation in the area to find the suspect.

This area has been shrouded in controversy in recent months by a wave of assaults and robberies. On March 5th, a Canadian man died after receiving several gunshot wounds while heading to the beach to photograph the sunrise.

The Chamber of Commerce of Puerto Viejo and businessmen are concerned about the insecurity in the place and the lack of police presence, in the absence of a delegation that is expected to be built in the coming months.

Every 33 hours a tourist is assaulted in the country. Only in the first 48 days of the year, 35 complaints were registered, half of them in Puerto Viejo.
