January inflation was 0.05%

The increase in the general level of prices during the first month of 2019 was 0.05%, according to a report issued on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumer basket, 57% increased in price, 36% decreased in price and 7% did not change.

According to the INEC, the groups with the greatest contribution to the variation of the consumer price index (CPI) in January were: Transport and Education.

During January, the goods and services that showed the greatest upward effect were: water service, university education, and vehicles. On the other hand, gasoline, power service and diesel were the main goods with the greatest reduction in prices.

In the first month of the last five years, the highest monthly variation was registered in 2016.
