Kivú is not ok: he is depressed

January 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Patricia Madrigal, Environment deputy minister, confirmed that lion Kivú is still depressed, he doesn’t want to eat or drink water and has lost weight in recent days. She added that authorities took some water in which they added food supplements and medicines to help him.

He has had some lack of appetite in recent days. The group of specialists is giving up. SENASA is making the corresponding observations to define the treatment,

explained the official.

Experts from the Veterinary School of the National University are performing the lion’s tests and the advice of two specialists of the United States, who have experience in felines in captivity, was requested.

Kivú has chronic renal failure and a week ago, a sample of exams was sent to a specialized center in the United States. However, the results are not ready yet and now Kivú has to wait to start a treatment.

On January 27th, Fundazoo submitted a statement which claimed that the government did not listen to the specialists’ recommendations: transferring the lion to ZooAve in Alajuela, could have stressed the animal.
