Kivú’s health has changed in recent days

January 27, 2017 by Staff News Writer

In December 2016, authorities from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) declared that it was an achievement to transfer lion Kivú from Simón Bolívar Park to the ZooAve Animal Rescue Center. However, it has recently informed that Kivú’s health is not good.

Through its official Facebook page, the Ministry briefly indicated that the lion’s physical activity has significantly decreased.

At the end of November 2016, MINAE declared that the lion could not be exhibited anymore at Simón Bolívar Zoo and it managed everything related to its transfer. The animal was thin, it ate little and it lived in a space that was not suitable for it.

The transfer to ZooAve meant better conditions for the lion that is already a geriatric patient and required more space and attention to improve its quality of life. Although the lion initially showed a significant recovery, good appetite and relevant physical activity, it seems that the situation has changed in recent days.
