Legislators ask Campbell’s resignation after resolution of the Attorney General’s Office

November 28, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Four legislators from different parties are calling for the resignation or dismissal of Epsy Campbell as chancellor of the Republic, after the resolution of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) on the appointments made by Campbell in various positions.

This Tuesday, CRHoy announced that through resolution OJ-115-2018 the PGR determined that the appointments made by Campbell in the Foreign Policy and International Cooperation directorates are illegal.

The process began with a query made to the entity by National Liberation legislator Karine Niño, following reports made by the media in July.

On Tuesday, Niño demanded that the government consult with the PGR so that the ruling would be binding, and at the same time requested the removal of the officials who were illegally appointed. President Carlos Alvarado was asked to fire Campbell as chancellor.

Jonathan Prendas, from New Republic Party, independent Erick Rodriguez, and Christian Socialist Pablo Heriberto Abarca joined the request for Campbell’s dismissal from the Foreign Ministry.

The Presidential House said it will refer to the case after the Government Council on Tuesday.
