Legislators will assess new extension on Uber project

January 8, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Legislators will assess whether they grant a new extension to the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Rodolfo Méndez, to present a bill that aims to regulate the service provided by digital platforms, including Uber.

On Tuesday, the legislators that make up the Economic Affairs Committee will meet to make the decision. Karine Niño is a secretary in that legislative forum and assures that it will grant the extension, in as much, the Ministry of Public Works and Transports (MOPT) demonstrates it has made progress on the initiative, or, a draft.

In the absence of progress, the Verdiblanca said she is willing to work on a project that integrates all modes of transport.

In the MOPT they asked for 20 additional days, since on December 18th they had to make the statement.

We have continued to make progress, but the complexity of the matter and the desire to present a visionary project in its regulations, which integrates the regulation of the operation of taxis and the provision of irregular services, requires us to have these 20 additional days,”

said the leader of the ministry in the letter sent on December 19th to Pablo Heriberto Abarca, president of the Commission.

The public sector was on holiday from December 21st until Monday when they returned to work. This would be the second extension they request.
