Man arrested for human trafficking in Los Chiles

September 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Officials of the Border Police chased and arrested an alleged human trafficker in Tablillas de Los Chiles, a town in the province of Alajuela.

According to police reports, the suspect is surnamed Salinas, 26, and is a neighbor of this border community.

The agents surprised him with two people, a 17-year-old teenager and his adult aunt, in a sector where there are usually cases of “coyotaje”.

Apparentl, Salinas had the pair leave his vehicle to walk an alternate route to circumvent a police post located in a sector known as Ceviche. All this was observed by the police agents.

The Ministry of Security detailed that when he was arrested, moments later, he was still guiding the Nicaraguan migrants.

After some investigations, the suspect was handcuffed and referred to the Prosecutor’s Office to initially face a case for possible human trafficking.

Meanwhile the woman and the teen were aided and received humanitarian attention from the General Direction of Migration.
