Man arrested on suspicion of human trafficking in La Cruz

On Monday, the Border Police arrested a man suspected of being a human smuggler (coyote) in a border area of the canton of La Cruz, in Guanacaste.

According to preliminary information, several agents were patrolling the area near Papaturro and caught three people who entered the country illegally.

An adult woman, a 15-year old teenager and a 37-year old man, who is suspected of human trafficking.

The woman, named Mora, told the Border Police she was guided by the alleged “coyote”, named Salazar, who charged her five thousand colones to go to Costa Rica.

Salazar was arrested immediately and after corroborating that he does not have any pending issues with the Justice, he was referred to the prosecutor of Liberia.
