Margay rescued from tourist center

March 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Margay-SENAC

A female margay was rescued by the authorities of the National System of Conservation Areas (SINCA), of the MINAE, jointly with the authorities of the Osa Conservation Area.

The animal was captive in a tourist center in La Palma, Puerto Jiménez. The authorities came after a complaint that he was feeding on chickens from the area.

When the rescuers arrived, the animal was agitated, nervous and dehydrated, so it was taken to a Rescue Center temporarily, where they will analyze its health to determine if they can release it back in the wild.

Experts observed that the animal was extremely sociable and comfortable around people and even showed a certain type of attachment, which would make it difficult to return it to its natural habitat.

Once they are certain of the health status of the animal and its response, they will assess the best course of action.
