Mexican exports grew 8% despite Trump

According to the national statistics institute INEGI, Mexico’s exports grew 8% in February compared to the same month last year, creating a trade surplus of $684 million.

Mexico exported 31.269 million dollars in February and imported 30.585 million, according to the institute.

Exports to the United States, which represent almost 80% of the total, increased by 3.9% in a year. The remaining 20% of exports increased by 13.5%.

The United States is the main destination of Mexican exports, along with Canada, in the North American Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to be renegotiated this year.

The value of merchandise imports totaled $ 30.585 billion in February, meaning an annual increase of 2.8%.

By type of goods, annual increases of 6.1% in imports of consumer goods and 3.2% in intermediate goods were observed, while imports of capital goods fell by 4.4% in relation to February 2016.

The economy of Mexico, the second in Latin America, would grow between 1.3% and 2.3% this year, according to the latest forecast by the local central bank.
