Mexican gang also hit in Canada: 122 watches were confiscated

December 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

After the arrest of four Mexicans, the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) explain the details about the group linked with two robberies in jewelry stores located in Escazú.

The events occurred on October 31st at the Eurochronos store in Multiplaza de Escazú and in Tiempo Global, located in Plaza Colonial.

Three of the detainees were captured Wednesday at the Juan Santamaría International Airport. A fourth subject was arrested in a hotel in the capital , where he kept nearly 122 stolen watches, each one valued in high amounts of colones.

Although the events occurred more than 1 month ago, some of the suspects remained in the country all this time. Walter Espinoza, director of the OIJ, confirmed that foreigners make up a group of around 28 or 30 people whose leader is based in Mexico.

These Mexicans operate on a regional scale. There are cases in Mexico and Montreal (Canada). It is a high level group, with hierarchies, managing a lot of money and a clear organization,”

said Espinoza.

Mexicans stayed in hotels in the capital and spent money on social activities to try to go unnoticed.
