Michelle Bachelet will come to analyze human rights issues

November 27, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and former president of Chile (2006-2010 / 2014-2018) will visit Costa Rica next week, said President Carlos Alvarado on Tuesday.

Bachelet will arrive on Monday, December 2nd and will meet with Alvarado on Wednesday 4th. During the days before the meeting with the President, the UN High Commissioner will meet with various sectors of the country linked to human rights.

This is the first time that a UN commissioner on human rights visits the country, according to Alvarado.

The last time Bachelet visited Costa Rica was in 2012, when she was the executive director of UN-Women. That time, she met with former president Laura Chinchilla.
