The cases of zika, chikungunya and dengue showed a slight increase from September 14th and 29th, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
While on September 14th the health authorities had a report of 301 confirmed cases of zika, for the week of September 29th that number increased to 307. The most important cantons are: Siquirres, Guácimo, Matina and Pococí. There are four probable cases of congenital syndrome associated with this disease and four pregnant women with probable contagion.
In the case of the chikungunya, two weeks ago there were 309 cases and this week they increased to 322. The places with the highest incidence are: Bagaces, Dowtown Lim{on, Hojancha and Montes de Oro.
As for the cases of dengue, they went from 4,151 to 4,320, with greater incidence in: Matina, Montes de Oro, Guácimo and Siquirres.
Autochthonous cases of malaria are maintained in nine and five are imported. Malaria is transmitted in this country mainly by the mosquito Anopheles Albimanus, which has behavior patterns and breeding sites different from the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that transmits dengue, zika and chikungunya.
The authorities call on the population to be attentive and collaborate to reduce the incidence of diseases, avoiding the formation of breeding grounds, which are more frequently formed in places such as disused tires, tanks and buckets, jars, black plastic for cover, drinking troughs, dishes and pots.
