MINAE will inspect all properties with rivers and ponds

September 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) announced that they will inspect the lands that have (or adjoin) rivers, lakes and ponds.

Minister Edgar Gutiérrez explained that starting on December 1st they will start with the inspection campaign in compliance with the Forestry Law, in force since 1996.

The review will cover all those persons, whether natural or legal, who have rivers, lakes, lagoons, natural or artificial reservoirs, aquifers or springs.

We will use the satellite images produced by the Monitoring System for Land Use Change in Productive Landscapes (Mocupp), coordinated by the National Center for Geo-environmental Information (Ceniga) of MINAE,”

said the minister.

The review will be carried out by officials from the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) located in different parts of the country, with members of the National Water Directorate, attached to MINAE.

With this, the ministry intends to gather evidence on possible environmental crimes or anomalies in land use.

They will carry out the field inspections that are required in order to collect evidence and identify potential offenders of the crime of land use change, invasion of protected areas and others,”

said the official.

Gutiérrez reiterated that these measures are based on the Wildlife Law, the Water Law and the Forestry Law.
