Housing Minister Rosendo Pujol admitted on Monday that the units of the housing project in Pococí were made of a base of polystyrene. However, the Minister believes in the good quality of the units.

In short statements to the press Pujol said the units were built with other materials, in addition to polystyrene, such as a steel mesh on both sides.

When asked about the quality of the units, he replied:

I think they are not of poor quality because they were approved by the technical teams of BANHVI at the time and the authorized entity.”

Pujol gave the statements in the Legislative Assembly, minutes before meeting with the legislator of Costa Rican Renovation, Gonzalo Ramírez.

The complaint about the material of the houses was filed by Legislator Gerardo Vargas Varela, from Frente Amplio, who said that after making a touring the project on Sunday, he concluded that these units are “painted shacks”.

Yesterday I was there and I walked all morning visiting houses. To say that this is a house is an offense, and to say that it is a dignified home is an offense for a Costa Rican,”

said Vargas Varela.

The congressman explained that the housing project started from previous administrations, but there are houses that are being built since last year.

Minister Pujol promised an investigation on the matter.
