More than 90 arrests in three months for illegal mining in Crucitas

July 29, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A total of 91 people have been arrested during the last three months, as part of the measures implemented to prevent illegal mining in Crucitas de Cutris, San Carlos, in the Northern Zone of the country. In addition, 300 people have been detected with irregular migratory status.

The data was published by the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) whose head visited the area once again, in the company of the legislators representing the Northern Zone of the country, to learn first-hand about the problems in the area.

Michael Soto, Minister of Security, said that the Vivoyet farm, which they visited this time, “is kept under control thanks to a significant presence of the Border Police.” In addition, he said that other nearby territories have also been intervened.

This is the second time government authorities visit the area. Legislators María José Corrales and Luis Ramón Carranza also participated in this new inspection.

Both the complaints and the clashes with coligalleros are constant, since the later invade the farms of the former Canadian company Infinito Gold, located in the Crutis area of San Carlos, with the objective of extracting gold.
