Movimiento Libertario: “José Alberto Alfaro must explain some things”

November 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Otto Guevara, head of Movimiento Libertario, confirmed that they will ask for explanations to vice-president of the Legislative Assembly José Alberto Alfaro, who suggested to eliminate the border with Nicaragua.

On the first day of the questioned trip that 12 congressmen took to Nicaragua, Alfaro made the following statement in front of Sandinist members of Parliament:

These lands, which are divided by a miserable border, should be the same land, to attract investment, brothers. Why do we continue to be divided by a border? Why don’t we open it, if we are practically in the development of the XXI century?

His statements were widely criticized for compromising the country’s international policy at a time when relations with Nicaragua are still cold because of the recent border disputes. However, Guevara said that Alfaro sent him a note clarifying that his statements should be contextualized in a time when he talked about investments and tourism, but that he did not refer to the free transit of citizens.
