September 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Leaders from 37 municipal police forces, met on September 21th in San José to discuss the challenges and emergencies that the region is facing.

This is the 19th meeting of the Union of Latin American Capital Cities (UCCI), which was attended by minister of Public Security, Gustavo Mata, and mayor of the Municipality of San José Johnny Araya.

The mayor explained that this meeting of the Municipal Police and the Public Safety counts on the presence of highest-level representatives from many Latin American cities, who gather in San José to discuss a topic that is the challenge of our cities: the security of the citizenship,

He also declared that the meeting comes at a time when Costa Rica is going through a remarkable strengthening of the municipal police, especially San José’s.

He concluded that one of the main challenges for the municipal police departments in Latin America is its strengthening regarding the staff, logistics, equipment and the introduction of new information technologies.
