Municipalities did not charged ¢ 137 billion in taxes

July 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The attention of the Comptroller General of the Republic is focused on the country’s municipalities, due to the existence of a debt for more than ¢ 137 billion in taxes and municipal services.

This figure comes from a report from the Services Department for Local Development, which shows a series of weaknesses in internal control of municipalities’ budgets, making the Comptroller partially or completely reject them.

On the other hand, Jonathan Espinoza, executive director of the National Association of Mayors (NHAI) said that responsibility must be shared, starting with taxpayers who must cancel their local taxes for the services received, and following with municipalities, which must develop new accessible platforms to collect taxes.
