Municipality is waiting for report to solve flood problem in San José

June 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The floods in San José will not end in the coming months, as the municipality is waiting for a study to determine the areas that require intervention, as well as proposals to mitigate the problem.

These places are Luján neighborhood, Chinatown, 7th Street and Paseo Colón, among others, which are the most prone to flooding and where there are more problems, according to Marco Vinicio Corrales, Manager of Provision of Services of the entity.

It requires a little patience in the sense these are projects worth millions of colones that the municipality has to look for. A comprehensive study of the Cloro River basin and drought is being awarded so that next week we can have a start order,”

said Corrales.

According to Corrales, this study will be ready by the end of the year and it will be then when the proposals of the projects become public, to be able to finance them with the budget of the coming year.

Our intention is to have important works to mitigate the floods in San José this summer.”

The official said that in the time he has in the institution, he had never seen a rain as intense and concentrated as that recorded on Monday afternoon.

It was 90 millimeters in almost two hours of rain, which is totally exceptional. Of course there is no place in the world that supports such a rain without having flood problems. However, we must continue to work on improving some aspects that have an impact every year,”

stated the official.
